Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
1. Who we are
The Catalogue Club is an independent album-discovery service operated under the trading name Haus Of Ry. In this notice, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the operator of The Catalogue Club, which is responsible for deciding how the personal information described here is used.
Service: The Catalogue Club
Trading name: Haus Of Ry
Privacy contact: [email protected]
Country: United Kingdom
Legal operator: Ryan Joseph Smith, trading as Haus Of Ry. The operator is the data controller. Haus Of Ry and The Catalogue Club are trading/service names, not a separate incorporated company.
2. What we collect
Depending on how you use the service, we may process:
- email address and authentication/account identifiers when you create and use an account;
- optional display name;
- album history, including albums served, completed or nuked, scores and timestamps;
- albums you save as favourites;
- device-side roulette history stored in browser storage/cookies to prevent immediate repeats;
- technical information generated by normal operation of the website, such as IP address, request information and security logs held by our hosting/infrastructure providers;
- optional analytics information collected through Google Analytics 4, but only after you give analytics consent.
We do not ask for special-category personal data such as health, political, religious or biometric information, and you should not put such information into your Catalogue Club profile.
3. Why we use your information
| Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Creating and operating your account | Contract / steps at your request |
| Saving your catalogue history, scores and favourites | Contract |
| Preventing duplicate/recent album selections and protecting the service | Legitimate interests, and where applicable strictly necessary device storage under PECR |
| Security, abuse prevention and service integrity | Legitimate interests / applicable legal obligations |
| Understanding aggregate site usage through Google Analytics | Consent |
| Responding to privacy or support requests | Legal obligation / legitimate interests |
4. Google Analytics
The Catalogue Club uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the website is used. The current measurement ID is G-WHV7PNX59C. The GA4 script is consent-gated: it is not loaded unless you choose to allow analytics in the site's consent prompt. If you decline, GA4 is not loaded.
With consent, we measure page and listening-stage views, album completion, previews, collection actions, sharing, sign-ups and logins. These events contain no email addresses, account identifiers, album ratings or shared comparison contents. For recognised search, social and AI referrers, we send only the referring origin; other external referrers are grouped as other referrals. Query strings and fragments are excluded from page metadata.
Analytics information can include page views, interactions, device/browser information and approximate technical information used by Google to provide the service. Google processes this information under its own terms and privacy documentation.
5. Music and technology providers
The service uses third-party services to resolve and provide links to album information and listening services, including MusicBrainz, Spotify, Apple/iTunes and Deezer. Album and artist information may be sent to these services to resolve catalogue information. We do not intentionally send your account email, profile or personal catalogue history to those music providers merely because you spin an album.
We also use infrastructure and software providers to host the website and account/database services. These providers may process technical or account information on our behalf. We will maintain an up-to-date record of relevant processors/subprocessors and the safeguards applying to any restricted international transfers.
Feedback
If you choose to report a problem, we store your message, category and the album or track context you submit. Reports are visible only to the Club administrator. Please leave out passwords and personal account details.
6. Cookies and browser storage
Catalogue Club uses browser storage and a first-party roulette-history cookie to support album selection and reduce repeated results. The separate analytics-consent preference is also stored locally so that your choice can be respected. Optional Google Analytics is only loaded after consent.
Google AdSense is not currently active. If advertising is introduced, we will implement the required consent mechanism before activating non-essential advertising technologies and update this policy with the relevant details.
See our Cookie & Storage Policy.
7. Retention
We keep account information and catalogue history for as long as your account remains active, unless a shorter period is required or you ask us to delete it and there is no lawful reason to retain it. Technical/security logs are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting and legal purposes. Browser-side roulette history expires according to the storage mechanism used by the service.
8. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law gives you rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, together with rights relating to consent where consent is used. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
To exercise a right, contact [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before disclosing or changing personal information. We normally respond to rights requests within one calendar month, subject to lawful extensions or exceptions.
9. Automated decision-making
Catalogue Club does not currently make decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects using solely automated processing. Album selection is a product feature, not an assessment of your eligibility for a service or other significant decision.
10. Children and young people
Catalogue Club is available to people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe someone under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact us at [email protected] so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
11. International transfers
Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where UK data-protection law treats this as a restricted transfer, we will use an appropriate legal transfer mechanism and safeguards and provide information about those safeguards where required.
12. Security
We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risks, including authenticated access controls, database access policies, server-side validation and secure account operations. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. We will investigate and respond to personal-data breaches in accordance with applicable law.
13. Changes
We may update this policy when the service, law or our processing changes. The latest version will always be published here with its review date.
14. Complaints
You can contact us first using the details above. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office. See the ICO's complaints information.
This policy is written for the current UK Catalogue Club service and is not a substitute for independent legal advice.
Your collection and shared snapshots
Unfinished listening progress is saved on your device. If you sign in, your collection, optional listening notes, listen-later shelf and standout tracks can sync privately to your account when you make changes. Monthly recaps are calculated from your saved completed albums.
Your profile starts private. Publishing a snapshot shares your chosen display name, up to 24 completed albums, their scores and optional standout tracks. Your listening notes, email, queue and unfinished sessions are excluded. Notes are not sent to analytics or included in comparison links. You can separately choose to include a note in a downloaded or shared verdict image. You can make the profile private again from My Catalogue. Downloaded images and comparison links you send to other people remain in their possession.
